Description   Distinguished without being the least bit stuffy, Torquay is study in tradition turned on its head, combining robust, right-angled silhouettes with a surprising juxtaposition of vibrant neoclassic designs. Like their namesake - a seaside resort on the "British Riviera" - Torquay ceramics offer drama and opulence, and then go on to impart a certain modern-day sensibility. From a bird's eye view, the strong, hand-painted stripes of frank and mustard, borders of bold gold lustre, and ceramic transfer checkerboard with integrated roses dominate the landscape. Peek underneath many of pieces to reveal a sweeter side, decorated with buttercup polka dots and wildflower transfers.
